If you are barebacking (or plan to), it’s important to know what options are out there to help prevent STBBI transmission. One option is to ask when your partner(s) were last tested, what STBBIs they were tested for and what the results were. You can even break the ice by offering your information first. Or you may choose to use lots of lube to reduce friction and bleeding. Maybe you only bareback when he pulls out before he cums. This last option may be appealing for trans men and transmasculine folks who do not wish to get pregnant. Testosterone does not act as a contraceptive even if your monthly bleeding has stopped.
If taking PrEP is your strategy, there is still a risk of contracting STBBIs other than HIV. So remember, no matter what kind of sex you enjoy, getting tested regularly is a good way to take care of yourself.
